About Viroqua
Pavement care for Viroqua properties
The town was first named Farwell for Governor Leonard J. Farwell and was renamed Viroqua in 1854. Nobody is sure where the new name came from, and the most likely source is an 1848 novel. Early settlers built lumber mills on the Kickapoo River, and in 1852 residents voted for Viroqua as the county seat. The Vernon County Courthouse there was built in 1880.
Asphalt wears down from sun, water and winter weather. Filling cracks early keeps water out of the base, and a protective coat slows the wear. A fresh sealcoat every two to three years suits most driveways.
