About Soldiers Grove
Pavement care for Soldiers Grove properties
Joseph H. Brightman settled the site in 1856 and started a sawmill to process logs rafted down the Kickapoo River. The village was first called Pine Grove for the white pines around it, and in 1867 the name changed to honor troops who had camped there during the Black Hawk War. After repeated floods, the village moved its business district to higher ground. Construction began in 1979 and finished in 1983, and a park now sits where the old downtown stood along the river.
Wisconsin winters push water into every crack, and freezing and thawing pries them wider. Sealcoat protects the surface from water, sun and weather, and crack filling covers the openings the sealer cannot bridge. Most driveways do best with a fresh coat every two to three years.
